Are you teaching in a physical therapy or education program? I've been doing some teaching myself lately, and inspired by Suzanne Campbell...who is giving free lectures to DPT students... I've created resources to help you in your pediatric physical therapy courses.
Health and Wellness for Pediatrics
Health and wellness in pediatrics needs to be family centered, so you aren't just working with the child. The stress of having a disability or raising a child with a disability can be off the charts. Here's resources I created to support the lectures you might give.
Resource #1
Health can be simple, its about having access to healthcare, nutrition, sleep and physical activity as well as social connection. And yet, given the structure of our health care system, who has access and many more factors, these are the very things that challenge the individuals that we work with. As a clinician, these are key resources and approaches we should be taking.
Link to document and the 5 minute recording. The pdf below works well for links but NOT for video, you need link above
to have video.
Resource #2 -
You are probably following this post as you know about Fit4Work: the work we do with adolescents and adults with developmental disabilities to support the foundational skills they need for work as well as their health.
This is a simple curation of resources: recorded lecture (30 minutes), slides and resources along with reflection questions to support this conversation.
This population straddles pediatrics and neuro and is particularly vulnerable to poor health outcomes. Grounded in transition planning, future goals, vocational aspirations and health. this document will help you get started!
