Really happy to connect with others at APPTAC 2022...it was really nice to be back in person. I co presented on behalf of the Practice Development Committee on Journal Clubs and Communities of Practice, information will be forthcoming from APTA Pediatrics media. If you are interested in journal clubs sooner, email me and I can share with you!
I havent been blogging much as so much of my work lately has been two fold: much more work at the primary and secondary v tertiary levels. Lots of Fit4Work screens, working with teams and advocating for student activity. It's where I think we function best for the high school and post school populations.
The other thing that has taken up my time is that I have been working on developing courses with Apply EBP. Its a good partnership because as much as I love presenting and doing knowledge translation, I dont care to market and sell. ApplyEBP has a high standard and so I can be assured they will make sure this work is best represented. I have 1 online course with two more coming: Strength Training and a Full Day Fit4Work training that is scheduled for March. These will be interactive, online, with hands on activities to help you feel confident in understanding the why and the how of Fit4Work. You can follow me here for updates.
Lastly, I am going to share some APPTAC nuggets with you. When I reviewed my notes from the courses attended, I found some common threads in many of them, in the area of equity which I weaved into this document. When things aren;t working and we cant get the results we strive for, we need to recalibrate. And it struck me that so many of the gaps that lead to inequity are because of expectation ie mobility access and timing SHOULD be equitable; we dont always use child/youth centered strategies; and our system is built on laws grounded in discimination based lack of access rather than changing attitudes, many of which promote medical model beliefs. And so, we are all challenged to ensure that in every case we ensure access to equipment, services and supports that are equitable, that we are always centering the child/youth voice in our advocacy practices.
. Hope this inspi
