Working on schools, our mission is to help children achieve their maximum physical potential and improve their quality of life. We know that the statistics are dire for mental health, what can we do to help children achieve optimal mental and physical health? Brain & Body Breaks! Created in collaboration with students at The George Washington University, the goal is to dose physical activity to support optimal mental health. Amy Miller, DPT and I mentored these students and then did the knowledge translation work to give you tools to help you educate school staff, advertise on social media and collect outcomes!
Why This Program Is a Game-Changer:
This page is designed exclusively for teachers, therapists and school staff to make it accessible and easy to use.
Evidence-Based Approach: Prior to creating the program, the students reviewed the literature to see what the dose of physical activity is needed for mental health effects. It seems to be 7-8 minutes of High Intensity Interval training. Should you need to educate school staff, infographics have been provided that speak not only to the state of mental health but also to the studies on mental health for developmental disabilities.
Interactive and Engaging Activities: The students designed a 3 level program with score cards and one pagers of each activity that can be used in a variety of ways to get the physical activity dosing needed for optimal mental AND physical health. You can customize this content to meet your program needs.
We are collecting outcomes ourselves, so please complete the google form to let us know what you think!
As a stakeholder, we play a vital role in shaping the lives of children and supporting their families. Fit4Work has always embraced being progressive and acting on evidence as it becomes available, and this program is a long time coming! Let's embrace the power of physical activity to transform mental health, and together, let's create a world where every child can achieve their full potential.
