Free books for Title I schools

As I am reviewing what's happened in 2020...and darn its a lot...I am assessing what 2021 will bring. While I have spent a lot of time advocating for youth with developmental disabilities this year, the pandemic has shown a very bright light on racial and socioeconomic disparities. What can I, as an individual do to reduce disparity?

For years, we have known about the challenges that face aging adults with developmental disabilities, and the many ways that our society and culture don't support their health and well being. We know these families endure significant financial stress, that developmental disability and other co morbidities go hand in hand and that the combination of lack of access, education, programming, expectation...all of these contribute to poor outcomes for those with disabilities seeking employment. Racial and socioeconomic disparity makes the gap even wider.

What is my sphere of influence??? Well, I have spent a lot of time curating and speaking about Fit4Work, and there are two immediate actions I can take.

1. When I am researching a topic, any topic, I will be sure to research disparity and share what I have learned so that we can increase awareness.

2. I am giving away 20 copies of my book to teachers, physical and occupational therapists who work in Title 1 Schools. My intent here is to take my programming and ideas straight to the providers at no cost to them. If interested, please complete this google form and I will send it right out :)

Looking forward to 2021 where we will have new opportunities to support the health and well being of individuals with developmental disabilities, especially if we can embrace Fit4Work concepts.
