This is a school year starting off like no other…normally at this time of year I am finding the kids (which school, which class, which teacher), doing trainings to support personal care routines of students with physical disability, getting schedules in order, and doing whole class Fit4Work screens, to support students participation in their vocational programs. This year, its about PPE, how to do a virtual eval and telehealth sessions as well as keeping track of online meeting links, all whilst preparing to go in person to smaller groups very soon.
And, in the mean time, the kids are still getting closer to graduation…and in this time when they are not in brick and mortar schools we need to continue to advocate for their health, well being and fitness or else when they do return to brick and mortar they will NOT be ready to fully engage in those programs. And we know, without a doubt, that foundational functional fitness, parental support, and job skill opportunities is what will help our students have employment and quality of life that we all deserve.
Whether in person or virtual we need to collect those outcomes or else we will have no idea whether programs are working. This can be done for entire classes, and I do this in conjunction with classroom and adapted PE teachers and occupational therapists.
So, to that end, here are two gifts for you: newly updated Fit4Work Screen – In Person and Fit4Work Screen – Virtual.
If you need the background and the "why" as well as the "how", consider attending the Fit4Work mini training to be held on 10/14/2020. Collect that data, document those outcomes. And let me know how it all works out. We all need to be Fit4Work!
PS Many thanks to Sarah Cruser for supporting my editorial process. You can find her here, and if you need support with writing projects, I highly suggest you check her out!
I’m so glad this helps you! Please send me feedback, as you administer it now and how it works for you over the year!
You just made my day! I was going through the newest version of your book yesterday thinking of how to organize my data collection while planning therapy sessions in a very restricted school environment and this appeared in my inbox. This was truly a gift. Thank you! Cyndi Jennings
