Fit4Work is now an online course!

I am super excited to announce that Fit4Work is now an online course! Initial course offering is September 25-November 6, 2019. Target audience is pediatric physical and occupational therapists, who will receive 15 contact hours upon completion of the course.

When taking a continuing education course, it is difficult to move from knowing to doing, to take what you have learned and use it immediately. You've heard that it takes 17 years to move from research to practice, and that is just way too long in my opinion. Using knowledge translation concepts, the course intends to take you from knowing the information to using it, to make real change in participation in vocational opportunities for the students that you work with. This initial course is designed as an interactive learning experience where you will learn WHAT fit for work is, HOW to implement, REFLECT on your program strengths and STRATEGIES to engage your school teams!

This course will provide physical and occupational therapists in secondary and community settings with the foundational knowledge needed to develop vocational programs that maximize work opportunities for youth with disabilities. Participants will review ergonomic concepts and employment facilitators for youth with disabilities. They will learn how therapists can evaluate, analyze and remediate neuromuscular impairments that affect participation in work activities. They will have opportunities to discuss strategies that engage, collaborate, and train school staff to support program development. They will analyze their student cases to enhance their knowledge of the context, limitations and barriers faced by students, families and schools. They will develop strategies to support participation in real life activities that will improve vocational opportunities for youth with disabilities on their caseload. In addition to course content, you will receive membership in the Academy of Prevention and Health Promotion Therapies, where you will have access to their online ecosystem to enhance your learning. This interactive platform will provide you with opportunities to interact with others within the course and outside of the course who have the same goals as you do, to enhance quality of life for the people they work with. You will have access to all recorded lectures, online meetings and a platform for interaction as well as many reflective learning opportunities to help you integrate, apply and use the information to develop and lead your own programs in school and community settings.

Course includes a free 2 month Academy of Health Prevention and Promotion Membership where you can access their resources as well. I have found their resources and ecosystem
